Overview
Deep experience building for aviation
From airfield earthwork and drainage to runway, taxiway, and apron subbase and paving, Kolb self-performs the sitework that keeps aircraft moving. We build to tight FAA-spec grades and smoothness tolerances, phase our work around live operations, and hold the line on airside safety and security from mobilization to final grade.

What we build
Where we work in aviation
From runways to landside site work, Kolb self-performs the airfield sitework that aviation infrastructure depends on.
Runways & Taxiways
We build and rehabilitate the pavements aircraft depend on, holding the tight grade and smoothness tolerances FAA specs demand.
- Subgrade prep and stabilized subbase
- Grading to FAA cross-slope and profile tolerances
- Asphalt and concrete paving
- Pavement removal and reconstruction
Aprons & Ramps
Aircraft parking, gate, and cargo aprons take heavy, concentrated loads. We build the base and paving to carry them.
- Heavy-duty subbase and aggregate placement
- Concrete and asphalt apron paving
- Positive drainage and slope control
- Fuel and deicing containment site work
Airfield Earthwork & Drainage
Before a single pavement goes down, the airfield has to drain and hold grade. Kolb self-performs the mass earthwork and drainage that make that possible.
- Mass grading and cut-and-fill
- Storm drainage and detention
- Erosion and sediment control
- Safety-area and object-free-area grading
Terminal & Landside Site Work
Beyond the fence line, terminals, roadways, and parking need the same disciplined sitework.
- Terminal building pads and utilities
- Access roads and parking lots
- Underground utilities
- Site grading and paving

What Kolb brings to aviation
Earthwork
Mass grading, excavation, and cut-and-fill to bring airfields to precise subgrade at scale.
Asphalt & Paving
Runway, taxiway, and apron paving built to FAA grade and smoothness tolerances.
Site Development
Complete sitework and project management for airfield and terminal projects, from bid to final grade.
Underground Utilities
Storm drainage, detention, and utility infrastructure that keeps airfields draining and running.
How we work
From active airfield to FAA-spec final grade.
One team plans and phases the work so runways, taxiways, and aprons reach spec without stopping operations.

Problems we solve
The challenges aviation sitework brings
Phasing around active operations
We sequence work around flight schedules and airside access so runways and taxiways stay in service while we build.
FAA-spec grades and smoothness
Machine control and constant survey hold cross-slope, profile, and smoothness to the tolerances FAA specs require.
Unsuitable ground at scale
From swamp stabilization to mass undercut, we engineer weak ground into airfield-grade subgrade, proven at Louis Armstrong and Lambert.
Security and airside access
Badged crews, escorts, and controlled access keep the operation secure and compliant inside the fence line.
Precise grades and safe airfields keep aircraft moving. We deliver them.
Safety
Safety is a culture, not a number.
For us, safety is more than an EMR figure. It’s how every crew shows up, every day. From daily planning and hazard analysis to ongoing crew training, we build safety into the work so our people go home safe and your project stays on track.
Daily hazard analysis
Every crew plans the work and the risks before it starts.
Ongoing safety training
Continuous training keeps our people sharp and certified.
Documented compliance
Full reporting and inspection coordination on every job.

Airfields we've delivered
Louis Armstrong Airport, New Orleans
Cypress swamp stabilized for expansion: 1,760,000 cy of sand imported and 14,000,000 lf of wick drain installed.
Lambert Airport Grading & Paving 5/6
7,500,000 cy of excavation with finish grading held to a tenth of a foot across hundreds of acres.
Airport Cast in Place Structures
86 aircraft-loaded cast-in-place structures and 28,000 lf of storm sewer, built inside the Airfield Operations Area.
